USA 2003 holiday

Here you will find pictures of the three days or so that we spent in San Francisco. Although it might look sunny enough I can assure you that it was cold.

"A colony of Sea Lions make their home in the harbour. These wooden platforms were specially made for them."

"A view along the famous Pier 39, full of tourist shops and restaurants. Some good seafood was to be had along here as well as crepes and pretzels."

"Lombard street. This section was so steep cars couldn't negotiate it, so they introduced some bends to make it possible."

"The Golden Gate bridge. We were fortunate that this picture was taken when it was. It was obscured by fog most of the rest of the time."

"This is one of the trolleys that run in various parts of the city. They operate via a moving cable under the road."

"We took a boat trip around the bay and this picture was taken by the helpful crew member whose job it was to prevent people from falling overboard."

"The famous prison set on Alcatraz island, taken from the boat we sailed around it in."

"The gate to the Chinatown. Beyond this every sign for several blocks was in Chinese."

"This was taken in the Golden Gate Park beside some giant rhubarb."

"The 'bush' has a man behind it and every so often he would frighten passing tourists by grunting at them and waving the bush. Part of the street theatre along Fisherman's Wharf."
