USA 2003 holiday

These are some of the pictures taken during the first few days of our holiday in California in 2003. It covers the period driving down Route 1 along the Big Sur coastline and visits to Solvang and the Lompoc valley.

"The coastline from San Francisco to Los Angeles is known as the Big Sur. Sur means surf in Spanish and you can see why."

"The waters around here are cold and there are dangerous currents and tides. Swimming is a risky business."

"Solvang is a town founded by Danes in 1911 and the houses have all been built in a Danish style as you can see from this picture."

"Whether this windmill was ever used I don't know. Nowadays it houses several shops."

"The Lompoc valley grows flowers and vegetables for seed, providing a very large percentage of the worlds needs for certain plants."

"We were a little late in the season to get the full effect but some idea of what the entire area would look like in spring can be obtained from these pictures."
