The Battlefleet Gothic Page Page

Battlefleet Gothic is "Star Wars" in the 41st millennium. It is produced by Games Workshop and is set in their Warhammer 40,000 world. Huge (and not so huge) space ships battle against each other in deep space with unimaginably powerful weapons.

Unusually for a Games Workshop game there are really only two main armies the Imperial Fleet and the Chaos Fleet. There are Orks and Eldar available (and now also Necrons) but these are relegated to pirate ships unsuitable for full scale battles against mighty armadas of battleships. Battles are fought on a table top sprinkled with planets, moons and celestial phenomena like gas clouds. Careful manoeuvre is required by admirals wishing to be successful in this game.

There is no melee as such in this game (although you can board enemy ships). It comes down to who can bring the most firepower to bear most effectively. Players also have fighters and bombers available to them as well as an array of torpedoes.

The command rules whereby ships can only be given special orders if their admiral is up to it makes this an entertaining and involving game. Much thought has to go into positioning of ships and games can get quite tense. Battlefleet Gothic also supports excellent campaign rules allowing players to fight over several battles for supremacy over a start system

See some examples of the miniatures for both Imperial and Chaos in the gallery.
